Since she worked yesterday, I wasn’t expecting my wife to make anything big for dinner; I figured, at most, she would find some sort of frozen dinner in the freezer or would just put a jar of spaghetti sauce over some pasta.
Instead, she did much more than expected and made tuna noodle casserole for dinner, using some ingredients “borrowed” from my parents; including a couple cans of cream of mushroom soup from the Chef’s Cupboard brand.
I have had other products from the Chef’s Cupboard brand in the past; mostly because it is one of those brands that are very affordable. And, with very few exceptions, I have been very pleased with the overall quality. After trying this product (with the tuna noodle casserole) last night, I have to say it lived up to expectations.
We actually use cream of mushroom soup quite a bit in our house, either as an ingredient (like last night) or just for eating plain. And, because we are usually on a tight budget, we have purchased quite a few cheap brands in the past. Some brands aren’t terrible. But, there are quite a few out there that have a noticeable difference when compared to some of the more expensive labels. This brand offered pretty much everything those didn’t.
One of the noticeable differences between this brand and other similar-priced brands was the thickness of the soup. It was much thicker and that made a significant difference when it came to last night’s dinner. Also, unlike many other brands, this had a good flavor to it. It offered quite a bit of taste without being very salty (one of my biggest pet peeves when it comes to any kind of soup).
In fact, the only thing I would change about this product (and I don’t really consider this a complaint because I’m OK with it given the lower price) would be to have larger chunks of mushrooms in it. However, even that isn’t too big of a deal because the lack of size is made up for by a surprisingly high overall quantity. In other words, the pieces were smaller but I didn’t have to hunt for them either.
If you need to purchase cream of mushroom soup for a recipe or just want it to eat, I recommend looking for this brand because you’ll get quite a bit of quality without having to spend a fortune.
