Recap: ‘Dexter,’ Season 6, Episode 8, ‘Sins of Omission’

In “Dexter,” Season 6, Episode 8, “Sins of Omission” Debra’s job is really starting to get to her as she starts in on Dexter, her beloved brother. Meanwhile, Dexter and Travis get mixed messages on the will of God.

Spoilers surely follow.

Debra is angry with Dexter for taking five days off and leaving her in a lurch. When she finds out that he lit out to Nebraska over the Trinity Killer mess, she becomes even angrier. Dexter’s taking time off to go to Brother Sam’s funeral and then going off into the night to kill Geller (though she doesn’t know the reason) makes things white-hot. Debra even cusses in front of Harrison, which even she knows it a big no-no.

Debra’s disposition is not helped by a dead hooker laid low by a heroin overdose. LaGuerta is eager to have the case closed. The one fly in that ointment is that there was evidence that there was someone with her, which means the case ought not to be closed. Apparently LaGuerta knows who it is and is using her influence to try to protect him.

Brother Sam has told Dexter that all the answers are in the Good Book. It is just a matter of finding the questions. He uses Bible passages to try to get Travis to give up Geller. However Travis, while he is done aiding Geller in his grisly work, will not get involved doing that. He just wants it to be over.

But Geller will not let it be over. He kidnaps Travis and chains him up in the abandoned church. Then he takes Travis’ sister and sacrifices her as the Whore of Babylon. This provides Dexter with a needed clue to find out where Geller is and how to hunt him down in the form of a retired priest whose church Geller now uses as a hideout. The abandoned church, isolated as it is, will be perfect for a kill room.

However, Geller gets away. Travis, distraught at the murder of his sister, promises Dexter that he will not help him hunt down Geller and end him.
