Phrase-inspired Halloween Costumes

If you are looking for a unique Halloween costume that will be relatively easy to make and inexpensive, then one of these costumes inspired by common phrases just might be what you are looking for. Impress your friends with your creativity and wit while making people smile with the clever take on everyday terms.

Monkey Business is a descriptive phrase that you can easily turn into a great costume. All you need to do is dress up like you would if going to work or interview for a job in a corporate setting. A business suit and dress shoes will take care of the business part of the costume. Add a long monkey tale and mask and you have a full monkey business costume. To make the costume even better, you can add fur or brown gloves for your hands, a briefcase, bananas and/or a palm tree.

A Cat Nap is another fun animal phrase turned costume. This is one of the simplest and most comfortable costumes you can wear. Wear some pajamas along with kitty slippers if possible. Add a cat tail, cat ears, whiskers, mittens and a dab or black face paint on your nose to cover the cat portion of the costume. Other props you can use to take the costume to another level include a blanket, pillow and alarm clock.

Autograph Hound is another fun phrase to make a costume. You will need a white sweat suit that has a hooded sweatshirt, white mittens and a pair of white socks you can fit over your shoes. Add floppy hound ears to your sweatshirt’s hood and a tail to the pants. Write autographs all over the costume. Friends or family can add their signatures and you can have others add their signatures at a party or while trick-or-treating to add a fun dimension to the costume. You can wear a dog collar and carry an oversized marker with you to complete your look.

A Ghost Writer costume begins with the most boring of last minute costumes. Begin with a white sheet that can cover your entire body. Cut out holes for your eyes and mouth and then write phrases all over the sheet. Halloween related poetry or prose, such as some Edgar Allen Poe, makes a nice touch. Carry an oversized pencil or other writing props along with you to complete the costume.
