Matt Magnum Announced as 2nd Competitor in 6th Annual Kowalski Cup Tournament

Matt Magnum has turned more than a few heads this past year. His uproarious eight month battle with “The Prodigy” Mike Bennett came to a close at this years Summer Showdown event. In an unexpected upset, Magnum defeated Bennett in a two out of three falls match. Besides defeating Bennett at Summer Showdown, Magnum showcased his skills in numerous matches with Vinny Marseglia, Matt Taven and Shane Alden. In the last year, Magnum went from being bogged down in a mid card tag team, to being one of the top singles competitors in Top Rope Promotions.

Matt Magnum competed in the 2010 Kowalski Cup Tournament. Magnum advanced to the second round, where he was soundly conquered by the 2011 Kowalski Cup winner and current Top Rope Promotions Heavyweight Champion Matt Taven.

Before getting involved in pro wrestling, Matt Magnum was one of the top amateur wrestlers in the state of Rhode Island. As part of the wrestling team at Cranston High School, Magnum was ranked 5th in the state his junior year. His love for amateur wrestling drove him to enroll in Spike Dudley’s school of professional wrestling, The Lock Up. In addition to being trained by Spike Dudley, he was also trained by “The Prodigy” Mike Bennett. Matt Magnum made his pro wrestling debut for Top Rope Promotions in October 2009.

Matt Magnum has also benefitted from local wrestling seminars. This includes seminars with 2009 Kowalski Cup winner and WWE star Stevie Richards, as well as Ring of Honor’s Kevin Kelly.

Matt Magnum is a pitbull in the ring. His aggression is unmatched. The smaller competitor mauls his foes the minute they enter the ring. And he doesn’t let up. Whereas other wrestlers might play to the crowd and taunt the fans in attendance, Magnum’s attention is always on his opponent. His supporters liken him to The Dynamite Kid and Eddie Edwards. And similar to the wrestlers he is likened to, Magnum doesn’t let his size get in his way. Magnum realizes he has a lot to prove and size is not in his favor. But despite this, or maybe even because of it, the Napoleon complex makes him even more determined to beat his rivals into the ground. Matt remains focused and intense throughout his matches. Its these traits that make him dangerous to the other competitors in the 2011 Kowalski Cup.

Chances of Winning: Matt Magnum’s chance of winning are relatively fair. He is coming off a huge win over Mike Bennett at Summer Showdown. However, he is still young and has yet to hit his prime. Magnum is in great shape and would have the stamina to wrestle three matches. However, his lack of main event matches may overwhelm the rookie.
