Halloween Bat Entryway

Wow, it’s going to be so much fun decorating for Halloween this year. It’s always a blast trying to outdo the neighbors on the spooky decorations, isn’t it? It’s gotten so that it’s quite a challenge and way too much work for some people, though. There are lots of ways to spook the crowd without having to go buy extravagant decorations or spend a massive amount of time creating just the right prank. Feel like toning it down just a little this year, as far as work and cost go? That’s a great idea. Let’s spend a little less time and money yet still give our homes that creepy, Halloween look.

With cheap felt you can make a very large arrangement that takes up quite a bit of space and gives a front or back door a spooky look. Buy black felt and you’ll be able to create the Halloween decorations for just a few bucks.

Lay the felt out flat and download bat templates. Download assorted sizes, from tiny to full-size. Trace around the templates, onto the black felt, and cut out the bat shapes.

Use double-sided tape to attach many bats around a door. Stick some to the door itself, some above the door, beside the door, on the door frame, and so forth. Attach some to a light fixture outside and continue placing bats in the general area. If you want, tape some of the felt bats to thin wires and push them into the ground. Position the bats so that they’re flying at different angles but they’re all flying in the same direction. When you arrange them properly they should look like a swarm which goes from one side of the door to the other, and some of them are low to the ground whereas others are flying much higher.

If you have no felt you can make the same thing with black paper but the bats won’t hold up in rain or snow. If there won’t be bad weather on Halloween where you live you can get by with paper bats.

The swarm of bats looks great on a front or back door but it’s a great arrangement for other places, too. Put the bats all over a flagpole, the mailbox, or even indoors on curtains or mirrors. You’ll spend a bit of time cutting out a lot of bats but, when that’s done, attaching them to the door or other areas isn’t at all difficult. You’ll spook the kids and other visitors without spending much money or putting out a lot of effort.
