Guide to Making MS Chat Rules

You can work on this off line or on line I found it better to do it off-line. Then make a private room and join a clone or have a friend join and test your rules. Once again you must have MS chat 2.5 not 2.1a.

What exactly are rules for ms chat you might be asking, well they can do any number of things from auto-connect when kicked from a room to auto-ignore a certain person.

Now to begin, go to “view” and “automation” then go to the tab marked “rule sets” mark both sample, and general. Then proceed to the “rules” tab.

The 1st thing you will want to do is undo the rule marked “on invite” and “on kick”. The reason is until you know your rules well enough you do not want things you have no idea coming up coming up out of the blue. You can get in trouble with that, trust me a few of my friends have already had got into trouble.

“On invite” does when someone sends you an invite it sends an automatic whisper to the person no thank you I am busy in such and such a room. “On kick” sends a message to the main channel when someone was kicked that it’s a good thing they were kicked from the room.

To tell you the truth doing these rules isn’t very fun at all! It’s a pain until you really tinker around and see what all you can do.

For the auto connect rule when kicked from a room, press “add rule” then “event: is a user is kicked from a room.” event parameters: nickname: %me% room: %anyofmyrooms% actions: join a room actions parameters: %eventroom% 0 delay press “ok” and “apply” and “ok” again.

For auto ignore of a certain person I use two rules. “Event: is a user connects to your chat server” or “network event parameters”: nickname: just type in the nick you wish to ignore. Network: ircnet. perform this action: start ignoring the event’s user. press “ok” and “apply” and “add rule” again.

Event: a user joins a room event parameters: nickname: type in the name of user to ignore. room: %anyofmyrooms% perform this action: actions: start ignoring event’s user press “ok” and “apply” and “ok” again.

Tinker around and try to make your own it’s fun trying things yourself you can do auto wavs, midis, and macros even. Have fun with it.
