Emptiness

Don’t y’all go out and git a snoot full, that’ll come back to bite ye. Just up and git filled with the Spirit. -Ephesians 5:18, The Hillbilly Bible Series

“Oh, that didn’t get it. It was high time I quit it. I just couldn’t carry on that way.” – The Eagles

Y’all ever git drunk just fer the heck of it? On account a you was bored and there wud’n nuthin’ on TV and the upstairs neighbors wud’n havin’ no juicy fights? I been there. I reckon a feller that’s wrote a Bible ort not to admit that, but I reckon a feller that’s wrote a Bible ort not to use the word “ort” neither. I done a lotta stuff I ort not to do. I’m a good bad example fer y’all so I’m a gonna just up and tell ye ’bout some of it, so’s you don’t have to repeat my mistakes. Mistakes is painful. Let me make ‘em fer ye so’s y’all can skip the knots on yer noggin.

Sometimes when we commence to feelin’ all empty inside, we reckon Jack Dan’els might be able to lend a hand fer a spell. He ain’t no cure, lemme tell ye! The next mornin’ yer liable to still feel empty, but like ye been pile drived by Jerry Lawler ten times and he thowed some fire on ye too, and yer liable to wake up next to somethin’ akin to The Sasquatch with a bad case a the mange (seems it works this way fer both ladies and fellers on account a Sasquatches come in all genders).

The hard truth is I reckon we got a epidemic a emptiness these days, and boy is it rampant. I been known to try to stuff my emptiness with all manner a junk….gals, wine, sports, books, stocks, food, drugs, and even the occasional Twilight movie. I’ll purdy much stuff anything down there in that ole hole that’ll go, but to no avail. Some wise feller said we got a “God shaped hole”, and after all my stuffin’ I done learned not to try to stuff nuthin’ down there, but the Good Lord. It ain’t a Facebook shaped hole that’s in me, it’s a God shaped hole.

Emptiness hurts. We human beins have a need fer unconditional love (grace). That kinda love only comes from the Good Lord. Ye cain’t git it no place else. King Jesus has got the market cornered on grace. The Good Book says that if’n we believe, we can be filled with love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control (Galatians 5:22). I’m here to tell ye, that’s the kinda fillin’ ye wanna have! It beats havin’ a snoot full any day!
