Do You Really Like that Song?

I asked my friend the other day if honesty still exists when people give opinions about music. He said yes but from the look in his eyes……I could tell he was lying. When I really think about it, I know that you can answer this question in more than just one way but honestly, mainstream media is not honest when it comes down to what music is good, and which music is God Awful.

The “Big Boys” who run the record labels tend to have very poor taste in how to make good records but have no problem forcing artist to make what they think is a good song. Lupe Fiasco showed us this when his label, Atlantic Records, tried to make him (a conscious rapper) release a forced, woeful and disposable club album called Lasers. Other words to describe Lasers would be: terrible, awful, bad and……..it was also bad. I remember the time, place and weather when I first heard Lasers, and I don’t mean that in a good way. All jokes aside I love Lupe Fiasco, I can’t wait for Food and Liquor 2 to drop and I respect him because I feel like he stands for all of us. I guess the point I’m trying to make is that there is virtually no good music left on the radio. It’s really nothing but bad songs and few songs that are OK but nothing that feels new and original. In other words, the 90’s era is over.

With there being no good songs on the radio we are forced to choose from the only songs that we have, we find ourselves humming songs that we don’t even like and its oh so sad. It’s like musical slavery or something, and it really just sucks. I only want to encourage people to at least speak up and say something, say something…..honest, preferably about how you feel about songs on the radio. Is that too much to ask? Am I being too hard on you? Those are meaningless questions, but the real question is “Do you really like that song?” and please be honest, because if you’re as passionate about music as I am you shouldn’t be scared to join me in throwing our radios out the window.
