COMMENTARY | MSNBC reported that Andrew Breitbart, one of the leading conservative commentators, has died at the age of 43. Breitbart is thought to have died from natural causes, after he collapsed walking outside of his home early March 1, although an official cause of death has not yet been determined. As a 24-year-old Republican voter, and conservative news enthusiast, here is why I find the death of Breitbart so sad, and the importance of his legacy.
As a freelance writer, the death of Breitbart weighs heavily on my heart, because Breitbart was an icon in my eyes. Breitbart was a conservative, and he always was waging wars against was he thought was a liberal media, and this is very inspirational. Breitbart was the first one to come out and say what he thought, he never apologized for being tough and sometimes a little over the top, because he was just doing what he thought was right. Whether you are a liberal or conservative, you have to respect the level of journalism that Breitbart brought to the table, and the fact that he never backed down to political pressure. Breitbart was an honest man, trying to make a difference in this world, and he was a true patriot. Breitbart stood for honesty, he reported both sides of the issue, and then drew conclusions from the facts at hand. The most important thing that Breitbart leaves behind, is how he taught so many people to stand up for what they believe in, and to live as a honest person.
Breitbart leaves a huge media legacy behind, since he had created a number of websites dedicated to getting the truth out there, regardless of what the truth might really be. Breitbart was the guy that broke the Anthony Weiner story, and was one of the leading forces behind Weiner resigning over his infamous Twitter pictures. Breitbart helped Adrianna Huffington launch Huffington Post, and he was also an editor for the Drudge Report at one time, which shows he really was a great journalist. Some people are happy that Breitbart has died, and this is just plain wrong, because Breitbart fought for each and every person in this country. The biggest legacy Breitbart leaves behind is the fact he always tried to find the truth, he was dominant in his arguments, and he was just downright forceful. I did not always agree with what Breitbart had to say, but as a writer, I respected him very much for his quest in life to find the answers. Breitbart is a hero, not just in the conservative community, but a true American hero, because he was willing to stand behind his convictions. Some people in America do not realize what a truly important figure in politics and media Breitbart was, but I feel lucky to have heard his message for as long as I have, and appreciate his years of reporting the truth.
