Then set up the dinner table – for two, place another log on the fire, and get ready to immerse your mind and imagination with a little bit of romance language, Brazilian Portuguese style.
The Brazilian Portuguese language is one of 6 of the major romance languages in the world, not that it is necessarily romantic, with its direct language roots tied into the country of Portugal. Romantic language is defined as a descendent of vulgar Latin, the language of ancient Rome. The other major players in the romance language category, besides Portuguese, is French, Spanish, Italian, Catalan, and Romanian. After the collapse of the Roman empire, the “Romantic Language” was basically split up into fragments and dispersed throughout the world to different regions to become later known as the Latin language.
Now lets get into the Brazilian Portuguese language itself. I will try to show you how to pronounce each word or phrase with a little audio help. In the Portuguese alphabet, there is no k, w, or y, Instead, these words are imported or mimicked to sound like the English versions. Brazilian Portuguese differs from that of the European Portuguese or Portuguese of Portugal in that, mostly, the words are more emphasized so that the mouth is more open in the Brazilian version. Other than that, there really is not a whole lot of difference. The grammar is more or less like the grammar of Spanish as far as the conjugation of verbs goes and vocabulary is similar.
