5 Relaxing Ways to Start Your Morning

Students of all ages are getting ready to fill schools and universities and hit the books. However, after a long summer it is quite a challenge to start getting up earlier than usual. How to wake up and start the day refreshed and energized?

Wake up to your favorite song. Have your iPod, mp3 player, or any other device nearby; so that you can reach for it right after your alarm goes off. Is there a song that has special meaning, or just puts you in a good mood? Play it and if it makes you jump out of bed and dance a bit – even better! “Pocketful of Sunshine” by Natasha Bedingfield, “Who`s that Chick” by Rihanna, and “Bye Bye Bye” by “N`Sync” are just a few tunes that can help you start the day the right way.

Do a few exercises. Even if you don`t have the time or the energy to run, or go to the gym in the morning, you can still do something to get the body going. Do a few stretches and some jumping jacks to increase circulation. Follow that up with some lunges or squats to stretch the leg muscles and some arm circles to loosen up the arms and shoulders and make it easier to carry heavy book bags all day long.

Doctors, health magazines and television shows emphasize the importance of drinking some liquids in the morning to flush out the system after a night`s sleep and help with digestion later on in the day. Having a tasty drink right after waking can also become a good morning ritual. In the warmer months water with a few slices of lemon, lime, orange, kiwi or strawberry with an ice cube can be refreshing. When the weather gets cold there is a wide assortment of green, black, or fruit-flavored teas to choose from.

Have you noticed how relaxed your body is when you get out of the pool, the ocean, or the sea? While not everybody has access to a pool or even better, the ocean, most of us can use the shower instead. A ten minute shower can help you wake up and start the day. Alternate between cool and warm water, and use your favorite shower gel. Coconut, vanilla, and tropical-fruit scented shower gels not only remind of vacation and drinking sweet cocktails by the pool, but depending on the shower gel, the scent can also linger on your skin throughout the day.

If you feel too lazy to take showers in the morning or to exercise, you can give yourself a mini, five minute massage without having to get up from bed. Lie down on your stomach and use the beds of your fingers to massage your scalp and neck. Massage the areas behind the ears, the lower neck area, as well as the temples. This method can also be used to relieve or lessen the intensity of a headache.
