Thorn & Thistle Floral and Cake Designs was formerly known as simply Thorn & Thistle Floral Design. Though she specializes in creating floral arrangements for weddings and other events, the owner recently expanded her business to include cakes after receiving countless compliments from the guests. Hesitant at first, she recently decided to “go all in” and see where her talents of both floral design and cake decorating could take her. Needless to say, she has had a decent start as word of mouth continues to bring her customers.
She recently completed a beautiful square, three-tier wedding cake which featured chocolate cake with chocolate mousse filling and vanilla cake with raspberry filling covered with a yummy, light whipped cream frosting and a beautiful fondant overlay. She then decorated the cake with hand cut fondant flowers of various sized with almond and chocolate flavoring. The bride and groom loved the cake!
Her latest creation was for a little girl’s fifth birthday party. She requested a Rapunzel cake, complete with Rapunzel’s tower! Devonna rose to the challenge and created the 10″ round, Rapunzel masterpiece. This marble cake with strawberry filling and whipped cream frosting also had a lovely fondant overlay and detailed decoration! She hand-crafted each individual shingle and pieces of wood that make up the windows from homemade fondant and added a great amount of detail to each piece! Little Analeiss was so excited when she received her cake! She couldn’t stop commenting on the fondant Rapunzel, the fondant lizard she was wanting so badly. Overall, the best part was the tower! The amount of detail from the stone wall to the wood planks and weathered shingles was incredible! She truly captured the Disney movie in the cake!
Thorn & Thistle Floral and Cake Designs is open for business! They serve Santa Fe, Albuquerque, Rio Rancho, and surrounding areas! Talk about one-stop shopping! Brides can save a ton of time by getting their flowers and cakes at the same place! One delivery fee, one less call to make, saves time and money! The owner, Devonna, works from home so there is not a shop to visit, but instead does consultations over the phone, email, or skype.
