The Houston Texans: A Fan’s Preview

Every year around this time fans in Houston Texas have high hopes for the upcoming football season and at the end of every year they are met with nothing but disappointment and promises that next season will be better. Could this year be the year that the team lives up to the hype?

Last season the Houston Texans had a great offense with good quarterback in Matt Schaub, the best wide receiver in the game in Andre Johnson, and last years top surprise and number one running back in Arian Foster. The offense was lacking in the first half of games but always seemed to find a way to comeback and make the game interesting. The defense however was another story.

Last years defense was historically bad leaving the Texans to do something out of norm, they brought in an actual coach with experience. Wade Phillips brings coaching experience to a team that has been searching for just that for the last decade. The first thing that Phillips did after his arrival was draft J.J. Watt and Brooks Reed who both appear to be hell raisers and a perfect fit into the Wade Phillips system. Just to make sure that his new defense would be all it could be he then convinced the Texans to go out and sign Johnathan Joesph and Danieal Manning to solidify his new defense.

With one of the most potent offenses in the league and a defense that cannot help but improve (and the fact that Peyton Manning appears to be missing the first game if not more) the Houston Texans look poised to make their first ever trip to the postseason. Could this be the start of a winning franchise? Time will tell but for now this writer feels good about their chances and is predicting an 11-5 season and a division title.
