Severe Clear

Morning breaks, the
Air feels cool, the
Sun shines bright in
Cobalt blue, the
Sky so sharp and
Crisp and clear, the
Pilots call it
Severe clear…

This ugly scar, so
Hard to heal, this
Gaping void still
Seems so real, it
Marks the spot where
Once they stood and
Reached up to the
Sky so clear, the
Pilots call it
Severe clear…

This smoky column
Rises high, it
Chokes the lungs, it
Burns the eyes, it
Blots the sun, it
Casts a pall, it
Leaves a shadow, it
Darkens all, and…

Ashes fall like
Morning rain, they
Soak the earth with
Searing pain, and
Souls rise up and
Tears fall down where
Steel and glass lie
On the ground…

Years have come and
Then flown by, our
Wars have raged, our
Foes have died, but
Still there’s just an
Empty sky, a
Sky so clear, the
Pilots call it
Severe clear…
