Review of “Chief” by Eric Church

I just bought the newest CD by Eric Church, Chief. I’ve played it through so many times already that I have learned most of the words – it’s that good. Church co-wrote all but one of the tracks (Like Jesus Does) and there is not one that I didn’t like. There are some slower songs, but the majority are high energy, a bit irreverent at times, which is typical Eric Church, and it sounds as if he is influenced a bit by Hank Williams, Jr., Toby Keith, and Willie Nelson. If you are familiar with his last release Carolina, then you know what I mean.

I wanted to purchase Chief after hearing “Homeboy”, which rose quickly on the country music charts, and then seeing the video, which was very well done (catch it on CMT.com). When the second release “Drink in My Hand” came out I quit putting it off and bought it. It seems destined to be another hit for Church. Chief is available at Wal-Mart for $10.00, Target.com for $12.99, Amazon.com for $11.68 or $5.00 for the downloadable MP3, and other fine retailers.
