Press Dahl Lamas? Latest in Strange Celebrity Baby Names

The date 11/11/11 was in the news quite a bit as possibly the lucky day of the year, and it was also the day that little Press Dahl Lamas was born to Shayne Lamas, daughter of actor Lorenzo Lamas and former Bachelor winner, and husband Nik Richie.

Press? You heard right. The new mom told E! News that the name came to her at the beginning of her pregnancy because “she was getting so much press.” She said it started as a joke, but when she found out she was having a girl she thought the name would be perfect, calling her, “Princess Press!”

Lamas is definitely not afraid to stand out, and perhaps she’d like her baby to be much the same. She married her husband in Las Vegas within hours of meeting in April of 2010. She has also posed in a bathing suit, as well as in the buff throughout her pregnancy.

Celebrities are known for naming their children rather bizarrely, and 2011 is no exception. I have to say, “Press,” takes the award so far, but there are quite a few others who come close.

On May 5, actress Alicia Silverstone gave birth to a baby boy she calls, “Bear Blu.” Bear Blu Jarecki may not have such an easy time growing up with that moniker. The 35-year-old is vegan and an animal rights activist, so perhaps that’s how the name came about?

Singer Mariah Carey and husband Nick Cannon named their twins, a boy and a girl born on April 30, Moroccan and Monroe. Monroe comes from Carey’s love of the late star Marilyn Monroe, and Moroccan came from her New York City apartment’s decor style. While Monroe is actually kind of cute, Moroccan is quite the mouthful.

Comedian Mike Meyers is hilariously funny, but I doubt his son will find the humor in his name when he gets a little older. Meyers’ wife, Kelly Tisdale, gave birth to Spike in September. Unfortunately, it sounds like she gave birth to an English Bull Dog or something similar.

When all of these children are ready to start school, perhaps their names will only be one of many that stand out, making things a little bit easier on them. Can you imagine the roll call? Press, Spike, Bear, Draco, Apple, Aleph, Pilot Inspektor? The teacher might have a hard time calling those names out with a straight face.
