This is a fun project your family can do together and is a great activity for Halloween festivities. This new spooky twist on bowling will give your young ghouls a howling good time. If planning a large children’s party, you might want to make two sets to avoid tantrums and frustration.
You Will Need:
Pencil
Paintbrush
Scissors
Quarter-inch black buttons
Green acrylic paint
Orange acrylic paint
Thick white craft glue
White spray primer
Black spray paint
20 yards of two- to three-inch-wide gauze bandage
Plastic bowling set
Instructions:
1. If the pins of your bowling set are colored, then cover them with the white spray primer. Make sure to do all spray painting in a well-ventilated area.
2. If the included bowling ball is not black, then paint it with the primer and then, when dry, paint it black. Let everything dry completely.
3. Cut the gauze bandage into two-yard lengths.
4. Glue one end of the gauze at the bottom of the first bowling pin. Wrap the gauze around the pin toward the top and then back down again. Repeat this process until all of the pins are wrapped in gauze.
5. Apply additional dabs of glue to secure the wrapped gauze to the pins and let dry completely.
6. Paint a green oval near the top of each pin to serve as the shaping behind the mummy’s eyes. Let the paint dry.
7. Glue two black buttons, side by side, over the green painted area and let dry. These will be the eyes.
8. Dab a small dot of white on each eye for a little spooky gleam. For the best results for this type of detail, I find that the end of a paintbrush handle does well.
9. Add some orange spots to the black bowling ball by dipping the end of the pencil in the orange paint and dotting the paint on the surface of the ball. Let dry.
When your newly decorated set is completely dry, it is ready for play. Have fun and enjoy the mummified bowling adventure.
