Homefront – 2011 Game of the Year?

When Grand Theft Auto came out years ago, everyone loved the idea of freelancing around a given space and pretty much doing anything and everything you could want. To take control of a character and ‘become’ that character has always become an appealing hobby for any video gamer. This is why when Homefront came out, the buzz in the video game world was sent into a frenzy.

Set in 2027, you are a member of The Resistance. The Korean Government has taken over America and she has been stripped down to the very fabric of her being. You are a member of a group, doing everything in order to defend her honor and take back the country in which you love. Along the way, you will meet friends and foes which have the same intentions as you. It is your job to infiltrate different areas and do what is necessary to conquer at all costs.

In a year in which Call of Duty, in many people’s opinion, walked away with the best game title of the year, others would agree that what makes Homefront so appealing is the immense attention to detail. Seeing well known American sites, turned into nothing more than a wasteland for murdered souls, it really hits home that this could be realistic. Many would say that seeing such a realistic game really gives you a different point of view of the world.

The thing about Homefront is it wasn’t just a normal video game that you see on the store shelf that entrenches you with false accounts and things that just could not happen in a normal world. It brings out real world possibilities and makes you think about the situations you are in. A game like Homefront makes you feel the game and feel the situations. It makes you wonder if this could happen and how far are we away from this possibility in the real world today? It angers you as not only an individual but as an American and anytime you feel the game and feel emotions within the game, then the developers are doing something right.

It is so easy to pick up a controller and play a football or basketball game when you are doing the same thing over and over again. However, picking up a game like Homefront and to be in the situations and live the life of a man that could one day be you is a very mind numbing experience and is one of the main reason that Homefront, is far and away the best game of 2011.
