Fan’s View: Will Caroline Wozniacki Ever Win a Grand Slam Singles Title?

Caroline Wozniacki came into the 2012 Australian Open as the #1 ranked woman’s singles tennis player in the world. She made it as far as quarterfinals, where she was knocked out in straight sets, 6-3, 7-6, by Kim Clijsters.

Wozniacki has spent a lot of time over the last couple of years as the #1 ranked women’s tennis player in the world, but she has yet to win a Grand Slam singles title.

Will Caroline Wozniacki ever win a Grand Slam singles title?

Caroline Wozniacki’s Parents Were Both Athletes from Poland

Caroline Wozniacki was born to be an athlete. Both her parents, Piotr and Anna, were great athletes from Poland. Her father, Piotr Wozniacki, played soccer professionally in Europe. Caroline was born in Denmark because that is where her father was playing soccer at the time Caroline was born.

Caroline’s mother, Anna Wozniacki, played volleyball for the Polish National Team. Caroline’s brother, Patrik Wozniacki, plays or played professional soccer in Denmark. Growing up in a family like that, one has to be an athlete.

My family has roots in Poland. I have many relatives living their today, and one of them, a very distant cousin, played on the Polish volleyball team in the last Olympics. So I naturally root for Caroline Wozniacki.

Caroline Wozniack’s Best Grand Slam Finishes

Born in 1990, Caroline Wozniacki is now 21 years old. She has not yet had great success playing in the Grand Slam events. She made the 2009 U.S. Open singles final, where she lost to Kim Clijsters. Her quarterfinal loss to Clijsters this year was her best finish in the Australian Open. The best she has done at the French Open is also the quarterfinals, and at Wimbledon, she has yet to get past the fourth round.

Caroline Wozniacki Will Win a Grand Slam Title if She Improves Her Athleticism

I was watching the quarterfinal match between Wozniacki and Kim Clijsters on Jan.24, 2012, and Chris Evert was commentating. Chris pointed out that Kim Clijsters appeared to be a better athlete than Caroline Wozniacki.

I think Chris Evert was right about that, and that points out what is probably preventing Caroline Wozniacki from winning a Grand Slam singles title. She is often losing to better athletes in the Grand Slam events.

In order to win a Grand Slam singles title, Caroline Wozniacki probably has to improve her athleticism. If she can improve her athleticism, she clearly has the game to win a Grand Slam title. So will Caroline Wozniacki win a Grand Slam singles title? If she works a little harder on her athleticism, I think she will.
