Buddy Roemer: The Unknown Presidential Candidate

GOP candidate for president, Buddy Roemer was on MSNBC on October 2, 2011. He was not announcing his candidacy for president. Instead, he was reminding voters that he was still seriously running.

Buddy Roemer has made a decision that political debaters has everywhere have wished that candidates would do. He has limited campaign donations to $100 per person. He is not accepting large donations from big companies. The reason Roemer gave for choosing this approach was that he does not want big business expect him to side with them on important issues.

For a little background on Buddy Roemer, let us turn to his campaign website. According to BuddyRoemer.com, Roemer was in Congress as a Democrat under President Reagan. He says that as a representative, he often crossed party lines to vote on President Reagan’s side. Roemer was also Governor of Louisiana from 1988 to 1992. Part of that time he was a Republican and part of that time he was a Democrat. The party line standoff in Washington D.C. is something that American voters do not like. This is also something that, as it appears, Buddy Roemer could overcome.

Back to what Roemer was explaining on MSNBC, he brought up that he has repeatedly tried to be a part of the Republican debates. The GOP is shutting him out of the debates, using various excuses. This of course makes it difficult for Mr. Roemer to have his name recognized as a potential candidate.

So, why are the other Republicans shutting Buddy Roemer out of GOP debates? They have not made an official statement. Buddy Roemer represents everything the United States needs in a president. He doesn’t support big business and can cross party lines to get the job done. Are the other Republicans afraid that Mr. Roemer might be a better candidate than any of them are?
