A Gift of Love

Once upon a time, in a land not so far awy and a time in the distant past, lived a very rich family. Their riches were overflowing. They were the leaders on this country. In which this country had many people.

It was the cold of Winter. Snow was falling in the glistening sun. As the sun shone brightly, each falling snowflake shimmered like tiny diamonds falling from the sky. Each one shimmering in a different pattern. The snow captivated all who were out and about. People looked in amazement at this wondrous sight. Even the children gazed at the snowflakes in wonder.

As the day drew near its end, the snow got heavier and the temperature got colder. The sight of the snowflakes changed from tiny white diamonds to tiny ice blue diamonds. As the snow hit the ground it appeared as though they had become frozen in time. Each one different and unique.

The next day brought sadness to the country as the leader declared all businesses closed due to the snow that had fallen. It was two weeks til Christmas. It appeared as though the businesses would be closed for quite some time. This saddened many people as they were trying to prepare for the upcoming holiday.

One child yelled out to the people, “Why are you All so downtrodden, Do you not remember what Christmas is about?” “what is it that you speak of child?”, asked someone quizzically. The child said, “Every year you all work yourselves to the bone to buy gifts for your families and friends. That is not what Christmas is all about. Christmas is about remembering and honor what our Father in Heaven did for us. God gave us the greatest and the most unselfish gift of all. He gave us His son, Jesus.”

You could see that many people were affected by what this 10 year old child said as they were in tears. Others seemed not to care or didn’t understand. How could a 10 year old boy have such knowledge as this? Many were bewildered but, knew he spoke the truth. This boy was very sad. Even his parents, the leaders of this country, had forgotten what Christmas truly meant. Apparently this country was not alone. Everywhere you went, the meaning of Christmas was lost.

So as this holiday season approaches please try to bring back the Christmas that once was. And maybe this Christmas Eve night you can step outside for a brief moment, look up into the sky toward Heaven and say “Thank you God for giving unto us the most precious gift. Thank you for giving us Jesus.”
