5 Truly Unique 2011 Halloween Costume Ideas for Girls

With Halloween just around the corner, it is that time of the year again when you have to help your children decide what they want to dress up as. If you have girls, and you (and they) like to be originals and think outside the box, then this article is for you. Every other girl in school will be dressed up as either a princess or a witch, you are more imaginative than that. Here are five truly unique costumes for girls.

1) Ms. Pac-Man. She is the ultimate female video game character. She was the embodiment of an independent woman. She had a family, worked harder than her husband (he never brought home food like she did – bananas, cherries, pretzels…), and she was fun to be around. Dress your girl up as Ms. Pac-Man and she will be the envy of all children in your town. You want to make a 3-D costume and not just a flat suit type outfit. Make it out of styrofoam. Just get a round chunk of it and cut it to fit around your child. Then you just need to paint it. This will not only be a costume, it will be a work of art.

2) Hobo in a Barrel. What you want to do here is make her look like she hops freight trains and eats nothing but baked beans. You want to dress her in old ratty clothing, smear dirt on her face and arms, mess up her hair, get her a stick with a knapsack on the end, and then put her in a barrel. The barrel will need some sort of support system to make sure it stays attached to your child. Best thing is to use a barrel with a solid bottom and cut leg holes into it. Attach handles for her to hold it up. This will also allow the people to just toss the candy inside the barrel and she won’t need a bucket.

3) Jackson Pollock Painting. This is simple. Just dress her in all white and then splatter paint all over the outfit. If you are unfamiliar with Pollock’s works, google them. It’s just paint splatters; hundreds of millions of dollars worth of paint splatters. Don’t put paint on your child’s face – not safe. The more intellectual households you visit will recognize the costume.

4) Charlie Chaplin. This is one for the more confident girls out there since it will entail her dressing up as a man. You will need a black suit, hat, fake mustache, and cane to do it best. All of these can be found at your local thrift stores and consignment shops. Go for exactness by finding images online that provide details. Also, she will need to practice his moves and style of walking. This will be a classic and quite Youtube worthy.

5) Mr. T. Having a real mohawk is optional. Wigs can be found at most costume stores. Also, with gold prices as high as they are, you won’t want to use real gold chains. Use fakes or spray paint chains gold in color. They just try as hard as you can to make her look identical to the fool-pitying icon. When you trick or treat at a house she needs to say, “I pity the fool who doesn’t give me more candy!” You will definitely be a one of a kind with this one.
