If you have heavy bleeding, fever, chills or pain, contact your health care provider right away. These may be signs of an infection. After the delivery of the placenta, the milk-producing hormones will be activated. Please talk to your heal…

Stillborn baby?
Q: My best friend is about 17-20 weeks pregnant and we are both afraid her baby could be stillborn. She hasn’t had any symptoms of pregnancy for a few weeks, her appetite hasn’t increased and she has felt no movement of her baby. This is her first child. She has been receiving prenatal care but for financial reasons has not been able to make her most recent appointment. I will pay for her if I have to, but what are the chances this baby could be stillborn? She has even said that she doesn’t even feel pregnant anymore. She should be having some sort of movement by now. Her other prenatal appointment have been okay. And they’ve even picked up a heartbeat but that was about 1 month or 1 month and a half ago.Thank you for all your answers! She has had morning sickness before and my friend is not on drugs!!! She is also wanting help for herself and isn’t like she is just sitting around saying, “okay, I think something is wrong but I won’t do anything.” I am taking her myself to do something about this. She just recently told me everything and her worries tonight which is why I asked this question to begin with. Thank you for your answers! You are all such a big help!
A: It’s not unusual to not feel movement at this point in a first pregnancy. It could have something to do with your friend’s body, the baby’s size, or the position of the placenta. If all was well before, and she’s had no pain or bleeding, I think it’s odd to assume that the baby has died. And to not seek medical care? Super weird. I understand that money is a constraint, but she’s not even looking for help! I think there’s something else going on, frankly. Maybe she doesn’t WANT the baby? Maybe she’s really depressed? Maybe she did something she shouldn’t have–drinking, drugs, whatever–and she’s trying to distance herself? In any case, she needs to see a doctor. You can pay, free clinic, ER, whatever. Get it checked out, and then you don’t have to worry anymore. And maybe a medical professional can get to the bottom of what’s REALLY going on with your friend.
17 weeks pregnant and still worried :(?
Q: I’m 17 weeks pregnant and worried about something going wrong. I know the chances of having a miscarriage is less than 1% after 16 weeks. But I keep reading stories about women who have lost their baby at 20 weeks or later and now I can’t stop worrying. One I read today on a forum website was a lady who was so excited about having her gender scan and wrote on the forum everyday, and then her scan showed that the baby no longer had a heartbeat, it was so horrible and made me cry I keep finding similar stories like this.I feel my baby moving but only every now and again, and it’s 3 weeks till my 20 week scan. What are the chances of having a stillborn baby now and would you have any symptoms?
A: Honey, I went through the same thing you’re going through… only I got mine out of the way early.I also would google things like “miscarriage rates” and anything and everything that could go wrong in a pregnancy. I can’t count how many stillbirth stories I read and sat here and cried my lil eyes out over.YOU NEED TO STOP! I have up to a 40% chance of miscarriage because I have PCOS and I refuse to obsess on what could go wrong. Seriously, you need to stop reading these stories because all you are doing is putting more stress on yourself which is absolutely needless. Enjoy your pregnancy, everyone worries about miscarriage and things like that happening, but you need to focus on the good things.
Please help, this really hurts!?
Q: First, I want to say that the reason I put this question in the Pregnancy section as well is because I just delivered a stillborn baby boy last week and Im wondering if this could be related to the labor or something like that. For the past two days now, I’ve had a really sharp pain in my left side about where the ribs are. It also radiates to my shoulder and shoulder blade, but the pain is most severe on the top of my shoulder. It hurts when I breathe in or out too deeply, as well as when I lay on my left side or on my back. I dont have a fever or any swelling or tingling–basically, no symptoms of any infection. It isnt gas nor constipation, so I’m wondering if I simply dislocated something? Either way, the pain is breathtaking and leaves me unable to function normally throughout the day. Ive tried drinking water and milk, in case it was either heartburn or cramps, Ive tried using a heating pad/taking a hot bath, and Ive taken a bunch of painkillers. So far, nothing is working. Please, if anyone could tell me what this is, if youve experienced similar pain, I would really appreciate it!! I cant get to the urgent care center until midnight when my husband gets home.
A: I don’t know what to tell you, but i am very sorry that u had to go through something like that, that would have killed me, and im sure your still upset, but i hope everything turns out to be ok, for the pain i dont know what it could be, i was gonn say maybe dislocated something but there is no telling, i guess since u took painkillers u should go to the doctor and get it checked out,. good luck with everything
