Ways to Reward Nonprofit Organization Volunteers

Rewards can have a significant impact on employee motivation and productivity. This can be especially true for individuals who work for non-profit organizations. Though traditional companies can recognize employees with cash rewards, non-profit organizations must consider non-monetary alternatives. These types of rewards include: special recognition, social gatherings, leadership roles and honor banquets.

Leadership Roles
Leadership roles stimulate volunteers. This gives an individual a sense of importance and self worth.Put a project group together and assign a leader. Allow the worker to delegate responsibilities and oversee that each task is successfully completed. Leadership roles encourage the individual to take on an increased sense of ownership.

Special Recognition
Special recognition is a very effective tool. It lets the volunteer know that his work is noticed and appreciated. Make an announcement during one of your meetings. Talk about the individual, the project they completed and how hard they worked. Recognizing those who work for the organization encourages them to keep up their quality performance.

Social Gathering
Social gatherings can boost volunteer morale. They serve as a time of relaxation and enjoyment. Set a goal and when it is reached, reward workers with a party. Arrange a day for the organization to go on a picnic. Provide refreshments, music and party games that encourage communication. These types of gatherings can help to build a sense of camaraderie among workers.

Honor Banquet
Throwing a banquet in honor of a hardworking volunteer can make their recognition memorable. Banquets will serve to honor the volunteer’s dedication to the organization. Once a year, choose a volunteer that you feel has dedicated the most time and energy towards you cause. Send invitations among the rest of your workers, and arrange for each of them to give a testimonial about the honoree. This will demonstrate that volunteer work is not being taken for granted.
