Fairfax County Police are warning area and surrounding residents to be cautious when buying cars on Craig’s-list, after several people in Lorton and Clifton were reportedly victims of robberies.

First Robbery:

There were two men who met with two men who were selling a car through Craig’s- list, an Internet-based classified service, in the area of Pohick Road and Wadebrook Terrace, in the Shadowbrook neighborhood of Lorton, at 10 p.m. Monday, October 10, 2011.

When the two men selling the car met with the two men who were interested in buying the car, they were robbed at gunpoint for money, Fairfax County Police spokesman Don Gotthardt reported.

Second Robbery:

A Virginia State Police trooper was waved down in the same general area near Pohick Road and Waterbrook Terrace at 7 p.m. on September 27, 2011, and they advised the trooper, they had been robbed after meeting an individual who was selling a car which had been coordinated through Craigs-list, according to a state police spokeswoman Deborah Cox.

Third Robbery:

The third incident involved a 41 year old man who met with two men who were selling a car through Craigs-list in the 13300 block of Ivakota Farm Road, in the Whipporwhill neighborhood outside of Clifton, at 5:35 p.m., September 25, 2011, but the man who was interested in buying the car got away before the men were able to take anything from him, Gotthardt said.

Fairfax County Police is unclear if the same suspects are involved in the three robberies. They’re urging area residents to be vigilant when they meet someone who is selling something from Craig’s-list.

They’ve asked residents to meet sellers in a public place and in the day-time. A person should never go alone, Gotthardt said.

The police warns prospective buyers, if the price seems too good to be true, it usually is.

Police ask anyone with information about the robberies to call Crime Solvers, 1-866-411-TIPS, e-mail at www.fairfaxcrimesolvers.org , or “TIP187″ plus your message to 274637 or call Fairfax County Police at 703-691-2131.
