The special man in your life deserves the perfect gift on Valentine’s Day. The gift itself does not have to be expensive. The true meaning comes from the thought put into the gift. A thoughtful gift for any man who shaves with a hand-held razor is homemade shaving soap. It is far better than any shaving soap on the market and leaves his face soft, smooth and purified. This particular shaving soap recipe is a cold process soap recipe with the additional ingredients of cosmetic clay and extra castor oil. The additional ingredients provide extra “slip” when shaving and a purifier.
Prior to beginning the Valentine’s Day homemade shaving soap, purchase soap molds in the shape of 3-inch hearts. The 3-inch size will fit easily into a shaving mug and provides just enough surface for the shaving brush to create adequate lather.
The following recipe will make approximately three pounds of soap. Add the fragrance he enjoys to the soap using either an essential or fragrance oil. Add extra castor oil to the recipe if your special man has sensitive skin.
Supplies:
Mixing bowl
Measuring cup with ounces
Mixing spoon
Olive oil
Coconut oil
Palm oil
Castor oil
Lye
Water
Bentonite clay
Essential or fragrance oil
Heart soap molds
Rose petals
Small gift box
Wrapping paper
Process:
Step 1 – Place the mixing bowl on a clean flat surface.
Step 2 – Measure and pour 13 oz. of Olive oil, 10 oz. of Coconut oil, 7 oz. of Palm oil, 2.5 oz. of Caster oil, 4.5 oz. of Lye, 9.5 oz. of water, 2 Tbs. of Bentonite clay and 1 to 1.5 oz. of the desired essential or fragrance oil.
Step 3 – Mix the ingredients thoroughly.
Step 4 – Pour the liquid into the heart shaped soap molds. Allow the molds to dry completely. This may take up to 24 hours depending on the temperature and humidity of the room.
Step 5 – Remove the hardened soap from the soap molds.
Step 6 – Fill the bottom of the small gift box with rose petals. The rose petals can either be real or artificial.
Step 7 – Place several heart shaving soaps on the rose petals. Wrap the gift and give it to that special man!
Suggestion:
Tie a ribbon around the wrapped package. Secure a hand-held razor to the ribbon as an added bonus. Make sure to get the type of razor that your man enjoys.
