The Life Coach: Setting Goals to Make Life Easier

Think it’s expensive to utilize the knowledge of a life coach? No longer. You now have a life coach right here on Associated Content. I have a Ph.D. and I hold my degree as a Holistic Life Coach. Through a series of articles, I know not how many yet, I will share with you many ways that you can better your life. One huge way to help better your life, and even make it easier, is to set goals.

You can write a goal journal, or just simply make random lists of your goals. I do both. Sticky notes are great for jotting down goals when they are small, but a journal can give you space to track daily, weekly, monthly and yearly goals.

Goal setting isn’t just a work thing, it’s a life thing. Where do you want to be in five years? In ten? These are goals. A list of daily goals may be something like this:

Grocery shopping

Homework

Dishes

Walk dog

Dinner date

Simple goals are just a list of things that you need to do throughout the day. A weekly list may look similar. A monthly list of goals may include vacations and bills. Yearly goals are more extended, like where and what you want to be in a certain number of years. An example would be:

In five years I plan to be:

Married

Pregnant with my first child

Working as a reporter at the local newspaper

Owner of my own home

There is one huge mistake many people make when they goal set. They chose to only make reasonable goals that they know are attainable, because that is often what we are told to do. I am not going to tell you this. If you only make attainable goals how will you be striving to better yourself? Strive for goals that set you apart for the crowd. Don’t be a follower, be a leader. Strive for what you want, no matter how far away it seems.

If you are single and don’t even have a romantic prospect but want to be married in five years, then set it as a goal. See it happening. Seeing it, using visualization, can help make it real and, again, uses the power of positive thinking. There will be a future article in this series dedicated to using visualization to attain your goals. At it’s minimal, this form of meditation can be used to see your future, the one that you want. Close your eyes and imagine your outcome. Write it down in your journal as if what you saw has actually happened already.

There is no success in life without goals. You can not attain anything without making a plan to attain it first, through goal setting. Who are you and what do you want to be? What do you need to do to get there? Write it down. Make it happen. No one has ever gotten anywhere by sitting around and waiting for things to happen to them. You need to make a plan and set it into action. Start with creating your list of goals.
