Last Minute Back to School Tips

It’s that time again! You guessed it – time to go back to school. As of now, you’re probably pulling your hair out in frustration, trying to finish up shopping and hoping that your kids will get up on time for school. Now that it’s almost time to go back to school, it’s time to get prepared for a busy year – with less challenges. Here are some tips to help you through it all:

School Supplies
Your budget is most likely going to be strapped for the upcoming school year. First, check to see what you have left over from the year before. Also, check through any art supplies you have it home – you’d be amazed at all the crayons, scissors, and even glue sticks that you might find. Another place to check for supplies is thrift stores and yard sales- they do carry a little bit at this time of year. Finally, keep a sharp eye out for supplies and stock up whenever the item is at its cheapest price.

School Lunches
If your child isn’t going to buy a school lunch, then try to be careful what you pack for them. If you’re on a budget, a great fruit to back would be a banana. If you can afford to spend a little bit, to cut back on calories, buy little 100 calorie packs, granola bars, and gummy packs. Finally, want to spruce up the lunch a bit? Cut fun shapes from the sandwich for the kiddies, while for the teens, pack them a salad with the dressing in a separate cup.

Getting Up Early
I even admit I had trouble as a child (and teen!) getting up early for school. Make sure your child starts practicing a few days before school starts on getting up early. Some kids have trouble getting up to an alarm clock. If the parent isn’t home at the time, what should you do? A friend of mine had a great suggestion – buy an alarm clock that allows you to record the parents’ voice on it. She found out that it made it easier for her children to get up to because they could hear her voice! As for the teenage girl, there are certain acne products that have refreshing stimulants in them that give the skin an “awake” feeling, such as Clean and Clear Morning Burst. Using this product can help give them the extra boost that they need.

Night Before
Each night before bed, try to prepare what can be done for getting ready for school the next day. Make sure to check that the homework and anything else is packed up and ready to go. Also, try to go ahead and get the clothes picked out. Simple little things like these can help save extra minutes the next morning.

Other Tips
Each morning, make sure that your child has something to eat for breakfast – even a simple snack can help them through a school day. As for homework, set some rules for how it is to be completed. Do they need a study buddy – a brother or sister perhaps? Try to check their homework if you can. Also, do they need to have their homework done before or after dinner? As for extra clothes, if you have kids close in age and size, let them mix and match wardrobes between them. If your teenage daughter wants a new purse but doesn’t have the cash to splash and you have the sewing skills and a little time, take an old pair of jeans or blanket and turn it into an awesome bag.

Simple tips like these can help make the start of the new school year a little bit easier. Try these steps and save yourself some time, stress, and money.
