How to Recycle Wrapping Paper

Whatever the occasion, a lot of presents can leave behind a shredded pile of wrapping paper that can wound up in the trash. The following offers some ways that wrapping paper can be reused.

Smooth over the wadded pieces of wrapping paper. Splice the pieces of used wrapping paper together with tape or glue to rewrap future gifts. Tape or glue on the underbelly of the pieces of wrapping paper, or the side that isn’t meant to be shown. If you use glue, allow the paper time to dry. Once the paper has dried, you can roll it onto any roll of wrapping paper that you have, or you can fold the paper into flat squares so that it can be stored.

Roll the pieces tightly and the paper can be used as a fire starter for fireplaces, grills or campfires. Depending on what the wrapping paper consists of it may emit toxic fumes and greenhouse gases. Also, paper may blow back from the fire.

Wrapping paper can be used in sewing art projects, which need stuffing such as pillows, cushions, stuffed toy animals and dolls.

In other art projects, wrapping paper can be used as paper Mache.

Wrapping paper makes great liners for cabinets.

You can cut the paper into individual paper placemats.

Kids and adults alike can make paper hats.

Stuff the paper into oversized or loose fitting shoes to make them fit better.

Stuff the paper into a Jean, pant or shirt pocket, if it has a hole, before putting anything in the pocket to help keep things from falling out. Things can still slide under or punch through the paper.

Use the paper to prevent drafts. Slide it under a closed door.

Use wrapping paper in gift bags instead of tissue paper or use both.

Line the trunk of your car with the paper so that if any groceries spill out in the trunk the paper will get dirty, and catch any leaks from beverage containers. Line your drink holder to keep it from getting sticky and wet from beverages.

If you have any pets traveling with you, line your car seat with wrapping paper, and let your dog or cat sit on it.
