How to Pack for a Holiday Getaway

It’s that time of the year again; the temperature is dropping and tans are fading. For many, this means taking a hint from the birds and flying down south faster than you can say “all-inclusive”. No matter which sun-drenched beach you’ll be lounging on, here’s what to pack for a week’s worth of seaside style.

Suitcase: 1 pair of linen pants, 2 pairs of shorts, 1 maxi dress, 1 skirt, 3 versatile dresses, 6 tops and all the accessories you can possibly fit.

Pants & shorts: Don’t fool yourself into thinking you’ll make use of your skinny jeans down south. Instead, opt for one pair of neutral shorts, one pair in a bold pattern, and a pair of wide-legged linen pants in white or camel-color. Wear any of these from day to night by switching from sandal to wedge. Pair with a simple top and the right accessories (think organic, eye-catching necklaces) and you might be mistaken for a local-born beauty. Gisele who?

Dresses & Skirts: While you may be tempted to pack every dress in your closet, think about your dry cleaning bill upon return. The solution is to choose the most versatile pieces; an exotic maxi dress or a cotton dress with extra detailing (look for braided straps or draped necklines) can take you from day trip to dinner. If you bring a skirt, let it be a bright colored bandage skirt to show off your glowing legs. Pair with a loose-fitting white blouse, chunky wedges and beachy waves – you’ll be heating things up long after the sun sets.

Tops: Stay comfortable with tops of different cuts in cotton, linen or jersey. Aim for three strapless or halter tops for sweltering beach days, two bold evening tops (open-back adds a little something extra) and a light, loose-fitting blouse to balance out too much exposed skin with a short skirt.

Accessories: Statement-making necklaces are a must. Look for turquoise or red stone, wooden beads or feathers. One pair of bohemian sandals is all you need to stand out in the sand; when heels are in order, wedges add laid-back style while still being comfortable enough to dance all night. Be sure to save room for a woven panama hat and a few linen scarves – they’ll add instant style to a simple sundress.
