Give a homemade adjustable square knot bracelet to that special man in your life as a sign of friendship or love. This simple bracelet is made from colored cording and using the macramé stitch called a square knot. Choose a red and black cording to express your love. Choose any other grouping of colors to show friendship.

Supplies:

Black and red cording
Tape measure
Scissors
Clipboard
Heavy fabric glue

Instructions:

Step 1 – Measure and cut two pieces of red cording 24-inches long, two pieces of black cording 14-inches long and two pieces of black cording 10-inches long. An average man’s wrist measures 9-inches in circumference.

Step 2 – Match one end of the two 24-inch pieces of red cording and the two 14-inch pieces of black cording. Tie the four pieces of cording together approximately half an inch from the end.

Step 3 – Secure the knot under the clip on the clipboard so the four long ends are hanging down over the bottom of the clipboard.

Step 4 – Arrange the cording so the two black pieces of cording are on the inside of the bundle with a red piece on each side. The red cording is used to make square knots over the black.

Step 5 – Begin the knotting process using the red cord on the left side of the bundle. Place the end of the red cord over the center two black pieces of cord and create an L shape. Insert the end of the red cord under the center black cords and through the loop made by the bottom of the L shape. Pull the end of the red cord until the knot is flush with the edge of the clipboard clip.

Step 6 – Make a backwards L shape over the center two black pieces of cording with the red cording on the right. Place the end of the red cord under the two center black pieces and through the loop created by the backwards L shape. Pull the end of the red cord until the knot is flush with the previous knot. Completing Step 5 and 6 creates one square knot.

Step 7 – Repeat Steps 5 and 6 until the bracelet is 12-inches long. Tie a knot to secure the four strands of cording together.

Step 8 – Position the square knotted cording on a flat work surface so it is on a vertical axis.

Step 9 – Position the 10-inch piece of black cording horizontally across the square knotted cord.

Step 10 – Fold the top knot, down placing it approximately 2-inches over the horizontal cord. Fold the bottom knot up, placing it approximately 2-inches above the horizontal cord.

Step 11 – Use the horizontal cord and create 4 square knots over the bracelet to use as a sliding knot.

Step 12 – Squeeze a drop of heaving fabric glue at the end of the square knots. Allow the glue to dry completely then cut the cording flush with the knot. Squeeze a second drop of glue on the cut cording and allow it to dry completely.

Tips: Add extra flair to the square knotted bracelet by adding beads over the center two black cords. Make sure to use a masculine looking bead such as a forged metal or wooden bead.
