Halloween Happening in Naperville, Ill.

The Naperville Parks District holds an annual free event each Halloween season called the Halloween Happening. This free event is geared toward children ages 10 and under.

Held in the Grand Pavillion area of the beautiful Naperville Riverwalk, this event welcomes young children accompanied by their parent(s) to come out for a free afternoon of festive fun. Children come dressed in Halloween costumes to participate in a variety of Halloween related activities and games, and to collect goodies such as prizes and candy. (The Grand Pavilion area is just west of Centennial Beach.)

In years past when I have taken my daughter, they have also offered hay rides through the streets of Naperville. This is a great Halloween activity for younger kids who may not be able to participate in the “scarier” offerings. The fact that it’s free makes it even better! This year’s 2011 Halloween Happening is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 30, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Visit the Naperville Park District website at: www.napervilleparks.org .

In addition to this event, on the same day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Naperville downtown area merchants offer the Trick or Treat in Downtown Naperville event. Young children who are accompanied by an adult, may come dressed in Halloween costumes to trick or treat at participating downtown Naperville businesses. Look for the Halloween balloon outside of participating businesses. More information can be found at www.downtownnaperville.com .) Many children hit the downtown area to trick or treat , either before or after the Halloween Happening.

Young children really enjoy these annual events, and it makes for a great, safe and fun Halloween experience for the little ones.
