Disney’s “Dumbo” just got the 70th Anniversary makeover for Blu-ray and DVD. Audiences and my Mother in particular will be very happy to get their hands on this new edition of the beloved tale of the flying elephant. Honestly, the movie has never looked or sounded so pristine.

For those of you who had your childhood stolen from you, “Dumbo” tells the tale of “a poor elephant [that] is ostracized from the rest of the circus animals and separated from his mother. She is chained up in a separate cage after trying to defend her child. Only brash-but-lovable Timothy Mouse offers the hand of friendship to Dumbo, encouraging the pouty pachyderm to exploit his different qualities for fame and fortune.”

I’m sure I’ll get no arguments from anyone about how much of a classic “Dumbo” is. Who could deny this tale about believing in yourself and friendship? It’s a powerful message that teaches kids and adults alike to never sell yourself short no matter what people say about you. It also is a great lesson on overcoming what some people might see as handicaps and using them to your advantage.

“Dumbo” will have no problem finding new fans in the many children out there who have never seen the movie. It will also delight the millions of adults who remember viewing the film growing up. One thing is for sure. No one has truly seen “Dumbo” until they’ve watched it digitally restored with the new audio mix.

The 70th Anniversary 2-Disc Blu-ray + DVD Combo Pack of “Dumbo” is packed full of extra features. Of course, most of them are on the Blu-ray disc. They include Disney View-Exanded Viewing Experience; Cine-Explore Experience; Never-Before-Seen Deleted Scene; Never-Before-Heard Song; Taking Flight: The Making of “Dumbo;” The Magic of “Dumbo: A Ride of Passage-A heartfelt look at Disneyland’s most popular ride; Audio commentary; Celebrating “Dumbo” featurette; Art galleries; Animated short “The Flying Mouse;” Animated short “Elmer Elephant;” What Do You See?-Decipher the scramble images in this game; What Do You Know-fun trivia game for all ages; and more.
