I interviewed color and styling specialists at the Cristophe Salon, inside the MGM Grand Hotel, in Las Vegas, to learn about the latest techniques.
Paul Juma, Colorist and Extensions Specialist, explained, “Each person has their own personality and flair for life. I explore their inner beauty. Our job is to show it through our work.
My number one priority is to use products that are safe for my client’s hair and that is why we use those that have little or no ammonia, which is less harmful for the hair. We use L’Oreal which is very gentle and takes time to lighten the hair as opposed to sitting under a dryer.
Juan Mejia, Hair Stylist, loves his work. “Each person is different and that is the fun about doing this.”
In the past, deciding on the right hair style for a person only depended on the shape of the face, the nose, lips and eyes but today there is so much more. Juan asks his clients questions about their lifestyle.
Paul and Juan consulted about my hair color and style before making their decisions as they usually do with all of their clients.
Paul chose vibrant warm coppery tones for the base with some honey blonde highlights, not too light so they would blend better. I feel his color brightens my face and softens the “look”.
Since I travel as well as being involved in Las Vegas entertainment and events, my preference is a style that is easy and fast to maintain. Juan’s short, carefree- style falls into place and makes me feel great that I don’t have to keep checking my hair. As Juan commented, “Your hair only needs a little mousse in the morning, a quick brushing and you are ready to go.”
I met Carolyn Allen, an exceptionally talented make-up artist specialist, a few years ago and was happy to see her at Cristophe’s Salon. Her air-brush techniques are so smooth the process gives a flawless complete finish to the face. Carolyn can even make me look great and that was a challenge. She is truly an artist with a gift.
