Clogged Coffee Maker: Fixes and Prevention

Have you ever made a pot of coffee just to have your coffee maker produce little brew (but it sure made a lot of noise)? Your coffee maker gets clogged every now and then, and it can be a super pain to deal with, especially when you have no idea how to fix your coffee maker to begin with. Learn how to not only fix your clogged coffee maker, but get some great tips on prevention for the future!

A coffee maker gets clogged mainly because water that is mixed with old coffee gets tossed into the machine and the debris (bits of coffee) gets stuck in the tube that dispenses the water. Cleaning out the coffee maker to give it a fresh start is the best way to fix a clogged coffee maker.

To fix a clogged coffee maker, rinse out the coffee pot and fill it with clean water, and take the coffee maker itself and rinse it out with clean water as well. Repeat cleaning out the coffee maker until the water runs clean. Then run a pot of clean water (sans coffee) through the machine until the coffee pot can fill up like it normally would.

I run my coffee maker with clean fresh water once a month to prevent my coffee maker from getting clogged. However, it often gets stopped up anyhow. The best prevention is in never pouring old coffee back into the coffee maker in the first place, but cleaning out the machine isn’t difficult. You can be back to brewing delish coffee in no time.
