Just when you thought there was nothing else that you could do with a candle – you’ve already poured your own candles, rolled beeswax candles, made candle wires and charms, tinted and scented candles – what more could you possibly do to continue with your beloved candle crafts? Have you made candle necklaces yet? Sure, why not? We women know that a simple necklace can change an okay outfit into a dazzling ensemble so why wouldn’t it work for a necklace as well? It does. When you put a necklace on a pillar candle you give it a dressier look for a special occasion or just for decorating at home.
If you’ve ever made even a simplistic necklace you already know that it can be a lot of fun. There are different ways you can make a necklace so that you can create just the look you want. One very quick way to make the necklace is to use a stretchy ponytail tie. Stretch it over the candle and decide which side will be the front. Attach a charm, wooden miniature, tiny metallic scrapbook charm, or even a large rhinestone. Just glue the chosen object onto the tie and your candle suddenly has a new life. If you use hot glue, just use a dot of it, so you won’t ruin the tie.
Make a slightly different type of necklace by using stretch cord from a craft store. Available in many colors, like gold, silver, white and others, the cord can help you give any pillar candle a new theme. Measure around the candle and cut a cord to be that length. Slide on a charm and tie the necklace onto the candle. Trim the ends of the knot closely and hide the knot, if possible, behind the charm.
With the above candle necklace you have many options for the way it looks. Instead of one charm, bead the entire cord, and then tie it on. Or, create groups of particular beads with a charm in the middle. As with the hair tie candle necklace you can also glue on a rhinestone, miniature shape or other trinket.
Depending upon how you make the necklace, and the various colors and accents you combine, you can make wedding candles, country or rustic candles, holiday candles and more. And, the best thing is that you can just remove the previous necklace and put on another one, any time you want, to change the look of the candle.
