A Trip I Will Never Forget

One of the worst travel experiences I have ever had was when we were heading home (back to Texas) from a family reunion in Utah. We decided to take a different route than we had taken on the way there. So we had no hotel reservations, no nothing, just a map and us. We head northeast from Utah into Colorado, where we see a road on the map that looks like it will be quicker to get us to the next interstate we need to get on to head into Texas. We start traveling down this two lane mountain road and it begins to get dark. At maximum we could go 35 miles per hour for this entire road which was at least 200 miles. It took us 5 hours in the dark, over mountain grades and turns to get down this road. We finally get to the end of the road, around midnight, maybe one in the morning and begin to look for a hotel, only to discover that all the hotels are booked.

So we continue to drive on looking for another hotel. We finally find one, which is run down and looks like something from a horror movie. We swallow our pride and decide to spend the night since we need rest. The next morning we wake up covered in red whelps, apparently allergic to something on the bed. We leave as fast as we can and begin to head down the interstate to go home. We stop for food, only to have our debit card denied. We call up the bank and they have placed a hold on our account because we are using the card too often in an area that differs from where we normally use it. After the hassle of settling the debit card issue, we just wanted to go home and that’s eventually where we winded up.
