10 Years in Afghanistan

Nearly ten years ago the United States invaded Afghanistan, a small nation in south-central Asia. The USA invaded that country under the premise that the Taliban was harboring Osama Bin Laden. Because the Taliban did not hand over Bin Laden. A trillion dollars has been spent, a few thousand troops have died, and Osama Bin Laden is dead, yet the war moves on.

There is a question that weighs heavy on the hearts of millions. Was it worth it? Was revenge worth the money, the lives, and 10 years of war? There is an entire generation of children who do not know what peacetime is like. Bin laden has been killed, yet there is no end in site. President has promised a draw down of troops, but only down to the number it was before he ordered the troop surge. We remain in what seems to be a state of perpetual war.

The war in Afghanistan is one of two wars that has bankrupted this country. Congress is pushing the president to cut the budget; they want him top cut money from several things that our country needs, yet refuse to cut the war budget. I suggest a better solution than cutting the war budget, we should put an end to both the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. Why is it that the government cares more about war than the welfare of this country?

If the reason for going to war was to bring Osama bin laden to justice, then why are we still in Afghanistan now that he is dead? The original goal of the war was not to overthrow the Taliban and nation build, yet that is exactly what we are trying to do. Now that Bin Laden is dead we need to bring our troops home.
