10 Essential Wedding Day Emergency Kit Items

We all hope and pray that emergencies will not be a source of concern on the most important day of our lives. Unfortunately, they are bound to happen. As the wedding coordinator at my church, I’ve seen my share of tears and anxiety attacks due to wedding day accidents – and many could have been avoided by a little preparation before wedding day.

Here are 10 items that are essential for your wedding day emergency kit:

Spot remover. Even though I consistently tell brides and bridesmaids to try and eat before they put their dresses on, many ignore me – and stains ultimately happen right before the processional (mustard from a sub was, by far, the worst). Spot remover is sure to remove any stain, and dry quickly. Super glue. This is a multipurpose item. Use it to repair broken heels, fix fallen hemlines, cracked nails, or rhinestones that fall off. Lint brush. One bridal party took photos with the family’s beloved white dog before the ceremony. Guess what color the dresses were? Black. White dog hair was everywhere, and there was a mad scramble using Scotch tape to dab it off. A lint brush on hand would have saved time and stress! Antacids. Don’t assume that your friends and family won’t be nervous. Trust me – the last thing you want is someone getting sick during the middle of your vows. Straws. Make sure every member of your wedding party drinks from straws once their tuxes or dresses are on. This prevents spills – and it won’t smudge the ladies’ lipstick as much! Sandpaper. Rub it on the bottom of the wedding party’s shoes to avoid slips. I’ve seen a groomsman slip and take his partner bridesmaid down with him in front of the entire congregation. Non-drowsy allergy medication. One humid day in August, right before the ceremony, a wedding party went outside of the church to take pictures. One of the bridesmaids got bitten badly by mosquitoes down by the creek. She looked like a raspberry! Batteries. I witnessed a bride break down in her bridal suite because her matron of honor’s batteries were about to die on her camera. Feminine products. There is always someone who magically gets their period a few minutes before the ceremony – and there are no feminine products to be found!
Positivity. A positive attitude is a must for your emergency kit. Surround yourself with encouraging people and positive thoughts, and enjoy every beautiful moment of your special day!
