Want to Rekindle Your Sex Life and Your Creativity? Flow into Your Second Chakra

This is the second in a series of articles exploring the chakra system.

Have you been feeling stuck? Is there a lack of movement in your life? How is your sex life? Maybe it could use a little sweetness. When was the last time you got out the art supplies and created something just for fun? How do you handle change?

The second chakra is called Svadhistana, which means “sweetness”. It is the energy center that corresponds to the element of water, and a balanced second chakra is the doorway to the full enjoyment of all things sensual. Think of the pleasure of really delicious food on your taste buds, or the soft silkiness of clean satin sheets when you settle in at night after a long day, or the thrill of your lover’s touch. Have your senses become a little dull amid the day to day routine? Maybe it’s time to get things moving.

The second chakra is located at the center of your belly, just below your navel. It is next on the journey upward from Muladhara, the first chakra. These two energy centers support each other, because self care feels good when you slow down and really experience it. If it was not in your nature to seek pleasure, you might never eat. Settling into a soft bed when you are tired is sensual and delicious. The pleasurable act of lovemaking is part of the survival program for our species. Pleasure is good for you!

What can you do to help your second chakra hum a little more happily? Following are some ideas. Choose the ones that feel the best!

Go dancing. The more free form the better.

Take a long bath with fragrant essential oils.

Invite a friend over for a sumptuous, delicious meal and take your time enjoying every bite.

Have a long, sensual date with your partner in the middle of the day when everyone else is working.

Paint your bedroom in your favorite color while enjoying your favorite music.

Drape yourself in orange, the color of the second chakra.

Do some yoga, focusing on opening your hips.

Take an Improvisation class to learn to think fast and have fun.

Take an art, ceramics or music class.

Go river rafting.

Get a massage.

This chakra can be overactive as well, and if this is the case, some attention to balancing this chakra is an excellent idea. If you have been accused of too much drama, are promiscuous or driven by your feelings from moment to moment, some moderating is in order. Seeking to open and balance the second chakra while staying firmly rooted to the ground is good practice.
