Valentine’s Day Nail Art Design Tutorial: Glitz French Manicure

Valentine’s Day is more than finding the perfect gift. It’s also about looking great, right down to your fingernails. For Valentine’s Day nail art designs, stick with a simple palette to fit the theme – soft pinks, whites, and reds. Add your own personal touch to your nails by adding hearts, roses, words, or the name of your Valentine across your hand. Practice your nail art design on acrylic nails first, before transferring your custom design to your own fingers. Try the following nail art design on how to create a glitz French manicure for Valentine’s Day.

Step 1

Prepare the nails by removing any old polish. Wash your hands and nails thoroughly with warm water and soap to remove any oils, to allow the polish to better adhere to the surface of the nails. Dry your hands and nails with a clean towel.

Step 2

Apply a layer of sheer nail polish base to the entire surface of the nails. The base layer will help keep the nail polish from chipping. Allow the base layer to fully dry before applying more layers of polish.

Step 3

Rip off a piece of painters tape or masking tape. Place the tape horizontally across the nail, approximately one-third of the way up the nail from the cuticle. Only the top one-third of the nail should not be covered by tape, similar to that of a traditional French manicure.

Step 4

Apply a layer of red nail polish to the top of each nail. The tape that you applied will prevent you from painting below this line and will keep the line looking clean and straight. Allow the first layer to fully dry before applying a second layer. Keep each layer thin to allow for more efficient drying.

Step 5

Remove the tape from the nail once the red polish has fully dried. Apply a sheer nail polish with red or pink glitter to the bottom two-thirds of the nail. Allow the glitter to fully dry before applying a second layer of the glitter polish to each nail.

Step 6

Dip a thin paint brush into white acrylic paint. Outline a small heart on the line that separates the red nail polish from the glitter polish. Fill the outline in with white paint, and allow the heart to fully dry. Alternatively, place a small white heart nail sticker in its place.
