Thanksgiving in Boise: Fun Family Events

November in the Boise area is a busy time and much of that has to do with the holidays. Thanksgiving events help you work up an appetite before your holiday feast.

The Family Advocate Program’s Gingerbread Gala 2011 dinner and holiday gala event, a fundraiser for the organization, is happening November 18th at the Boise State University Jordan Ballroom. On Saturday, November 19th, the Boise Holiday Parade will march down University and Capital at 9:45am. Don’t miss this annual Holiday tradition featuring the Zamzow family.

Boise community members from all over the world come together to share food, stories and celebrate diversity at the Welcoming Boise Initiative Thanksgiving Family Potluck of the Idaho Education Association, Sunday, November 20 at 4:30 p.m. Then at 7:30 that night 2011 Hymns of Thanksgiving Boise, a community choir and orchestra of about 350 musicians performs a free concert at CenturyLink Arena. Community donations are accepted on behalf of the Idaho Food Bank.

Boise WaterShed Environmental Education Center says “join us in the exhibit hall from 10:00 a.m. to noon on Monday, November 21 to create beautiful Fall and Thanksgiving crafts for all ages” at their Thanksgiving Break Event.

A Thanksgiving Mini Camp is being offered by Wings Center, Boise Where FUN is off the charts!! the camp is for Kindergarten through 9th Graders and will take place from November 21-23. They are open 7am to 6pm. You can sign your child up for a single day, a couple days, or all three days. Join in with The Discovery Center of Idaho in Boise on November 21, 22 and 23 for the Discovery Center – Thankgiving Feast of Sciences.

The Boise Gun Club’s annual Thanksgiving Meat Shoot will be held on Wednesday, November 23, from 3 pm to midnight. Then on the 24th through the 27th, don’t miss out on Winter Garden Aglow, held at the Idaho Botanical Garden, a holiday display of over 250,000 glorious lights. Spectators are also treated to the view of holiday lights in downtown Boise from the upper garden.

On the Friday after Thanksgiving, enjoy delicious soup prepared by local restaurants in a bowl hand-crafted by local artisans, amateur artists, and studios at the Idaho Food Bank Empty Bowls.

There are more than enough activities to keep every family member busy –from little ones to older ones. From traditions to new adventures, Thanksgiving in Boise is full of fun.
