Review of ELF Essentials Eyeshadow Brush

ELF is often praised for the creation of affordable and high quality eyeshadow brushes. They are truly affordable, as they are only $1. These eyeshadow brushes have the typical pearlized white handle of the ELF essentials brush line. The bristles are synthetic, so they are cruelty free, which is also another attractive detail about ELF. The ferrule of my particular brush was attached very firmly and it was not loose at all.

The brush itself is a typical paddle brush that is fairly dense, though definitely not the most dense brush available. I love that the bristles of this brush are especially soft, which is really important on the delicate eye area. The shape of the brush is ideal for packing on eyeshadow for the lid, but it is also good for adding a contour color with the tip of the brush. Thus, it is quite a multifunctional brush, and it can be used every day.

The quality of the brush is excellent. It can be washed without shedding at all, and it washes out quite easily. It does not hold onto color, which can be very inconvenient when using dark colored eyeshadows. It dries fairly quickly as well. I love that this brush is still very fluffy, despite the fact that it is dense. One of the brushes that I have, I’ve owned for more than a year, and it is still in very good condition. The bristles and the ferrule are still intact, and I don’t experience shedding. But I would like to comment that the quality of this product is not at all consistent. I have ordered eyeshadow brushes in the past from ELF that come with bristles falling out of the ferrule, shedding all over the place, which is terribly inconvenient. I think my overall record is the following: I have ordered three eye brushes in total, one of which is excellent. The rest have “longer” bristles that actually are coming out of the ferrule. Thus, this product can be very hit and miss in terms of quality.

While I do recommend the quality of the “good” brushes that ELF produces, I also have to note that not every single brush is good quality. Therefore, I would really recommend that this product be purchased at Target where you can see what the brushes look like and if they have good bristles. Don’t purchase this product online because you could end up wasting your money, even though this brush is very inexpensive.
