Review: Freschetta Naturally Rising Crust Supreme Pizza

A couple nights ago, my wife had to run some errands after work and, as a result of that, didn’t get home until about the same time I was getting home. Since she was at the store anyway, she decided to just grab a frozen pizza so neither of us had to cook. The one she picked out was a Freschetta Naturally Rising Crust Supreme Pizza.

I have had other pizzas from the Freschetta brand in the past, and because of my experiences with those, I don’t think I was as thrilled with this purchase as I normally would be. The pizzas I had in the past weren’t terrible. But, this is a brand that usually runs about $6-$7 and I never noticed anything that would set them apart from pizzas that were a couple dollars cheaper. And, when we made this pizza, I was expecting to have the exact same opinion of it.

As it turns out, I was wrong. While I’m still undecided about the pizza being worth quite as much as it cost, I did notice just enough from it to justify paying more than some other pizzas.

First of all, the crust was perfect. It was a thicker crust that came out exactly the way I like it; crispy on the outside but soft and fluffy on the inside. Almost as important, it had a decent flavor to it. I normally will throw out crust to the squirrels but I did eat every bite this time.

I also liked the seasonings in the sauce. It wasn’t too spicy but it also wasn’t bland like so many other brands.

Another thing that impressed me was the toppings. I have had plenty of other pizzas, including some from this brand, which seemed to skimp on the sausage, pepperoni, etc. That wasn’t the case this time. There were quite a few toppings, both in variety and overall quantity. This not only added flavor to the pizza, it made it much more filling. I had a couple slices leftover for the next day and I rarely have any leftovers when we eat frozen pizza.

In fact, I think my only complaint about this pizza was the toppings didn’t seem to be spaced out evenly. For example, I had one slice that was almost all sausage and another one that had no sausage at all. But, that was something that could have easily been solved by moving the toppings around a bit before baking.

As I said before, I have not always had good experiences with the Freschetta brand but this is one pizza I would buy again.
