Add character to any location with a homemade coiled denim rug. A denim rug, no matter how it is made, is very durable and withstands constant abuse.
Things You’ll Need:
Old denim jeans
Scissors
Measuring tape
Heavy canvas
Hot glue gun
Hot glue sticks
Instructions:
Step 1 – Determine the size of the desired rug. Measure and cut a piece of canvas 2-inches larger than the determined width and length.
Step 2 – Fold each edge of the canvas in 1-inch. Glue into place with the hot glue gun. Repeat the process one more time to create a finished edge on the rug.
Step 3 – Cut the old denim jeans into 2-inch strips. The exact amount of strips is determined by the size of the finished rug.
Step 4 – Fold the 2-inch strip in half to create a 1-inch wide strip.
Step 5 – Roll the strip into a snake-like coil. The folded edge of the strip is the top. Repeat Step 4 and 5 until the coil is 2-to 4-inches in diameter. The width of the coil is up to you.
Step 6 – Hot glue the end of the strip to the coil to secure. Repeat steps 3 through 5 until enough coils are made to complete the rug.
Step 7 – Spread the canvas on a flat work surface so the glued edge of the canvas is facing up. Place the denim coils side-by-side on the canvas until it is covered completely. Rearrange the coils to attain the desired look.
Step 8 – Remove the coils one at a time and hot glue them to the surface of the canvas. Use a large zigzag pattern when applying the hot glue to the back of the coil.
Step 9 – Place the completed rug in the desired location.
Tip – If a denim coil comes loose from the rug, simply hot glue it back in place.
