Lovely Pacifier Necklace

So, your baby finally gave up his or her pacifier – what a relief! But you know you’re the one who did the hard work, trying to get the baby through that trying time. That’s why you deserve a reward. And, since the reward can be made from that old pacifier you won’t have to throw it in the trash. Instead, turn it into a lovely necklace that the baby – or anyone else – will never recognize as part of a pacifier.

The perfect pacifier choice is one that is clear – the sucked-on part, not the plastic handle of the pacifier. The part that baby sucks looks something like a tiny bottle or vase. It should have no scratches and should not be cloudy. When you cut off that part you have a cute little container for nearly anything tiny. When the sucking part is removed you’ll notice that it’s hollow. That means you can put any number of items inside it to create the necklace you really want.

When you squeeze the sides of the clear plastic container you can open up the mouth of it to make it easier to put something inside. One necklace you can create is made by using a bracelet charm. It already has a link on it – for attaching it to the bracelet – and that will make it easy to hang it from a chain, cord, or wire. Just put a tiny glue dot on the back of the charm, squeeze the sides of the pacifier piece, and, with tweezers, place the charm inside the little container. Use the tweezers to push the charm back against the plastic, making sure the link of the charm stays above the opening of the container.

After the charm is in the “bottle” you can decorate around the top of the bottle by gluing on a tiny cord, a bit of ribbon, or even a narrow piece of lace. Slide the chain or other necklace piece in through the link of the charm to attach it.

There are many different things you can put inside the tiny, plastic bottle. Slide in a silk flower, a marble, glitter, sequin, a picture, beads, a curled ribbon, or any number of other small things. In fact, craft and other stores feature all sorts of miniatures that would look fabulous inside the tiny bottle. Since these things have no jump rings you’ll have to try something different. Use a short string, wrap it around the chosen necklace piece, and bring the ends together. Slide the ends into the little bottle and glue it shut – with the embellishments already inside. Decorate around the neck of the bottle to finish.

Make a different version of the pacifier necklace by taking the easy way out and simply gluing a charm or other miniature onto one side of the clear pacifier piece. A pacifier necklace is so cute and, even if you make one for everyone you know, no two will ever have to be the same. Purchase a pacifier at a dollar-theme store and you can make the necklace really cheap.
