As part of the Lowell Series on Physics, the Museum of Science presents Lisa Randall, PhD, renowned physicist and expert on particle physics (the study of the smallest objects we know of) and cosmology (the study of the largest objects we know of), who will discuss and sign copies of her book Knocking on Heaven’s Door. Frank B. Baird, Jr., Professor of Science at Harvard University, will join her in conversation. Tickets for this event are free, but limited. In case of rain, the “What the Fluff” festival will be rescheduled for Sunday, September 25th.

The Phantom Gourmet presents a giant afternoon Food Festival to take place in the streets, bars, and clubs around Fenway Park. The Boloco Block Party will take place alongside the Boston Hub on Wheels Citiwide Ride, a community bike ride through throughout and around Boston neighborhoods, historical sites and along Storrow Drive, which will be closed off to cars. The TDBank Mayor’s Cup Cycling Race will also occur as part of this group of events. The Block Party will be centralized around Boston’s City Hall Plaza and will feature bike demonstrations, live entertainment, food, a beer garden, and activities for kids.

The 22nd Annual Harpoon Octoberfest at the Harpoon Brewery will feature a variety of Harpoon and UFO beers, German food, traditional German music by New England based Oompa bands, games, and more. Your $20 ticket will get you in the door, plus a souvenir pint cup and one drink ticket. From that point on, all beers will be $5 a pint. Designated drivers will receive free non-alcoholic beverages; announce yourself at the customer service booth. To get to the Harpoon Brewery by public transportation, you can take the SL2 or SL3 Silver Line buses from South Station to the Harbor Street stop. There will also be a free shuttle bus running to and from the event and the South Station area. The shuttle will depart from behind the Federal Reserve building, along the Fort Point Channel off of Summer Street. There will be signs.
