How to Create Your Own Holiday

Everyone loves holidays and the fact that for many of us those days are non working days. From New Years Day, Valentines Day, Memorial Day, The 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day most people feel that there are plenty of holiday’s to go around. But what do you do if you decide that you need another holiday? Why you create one of course.

How to Create a Holiday

Finding a reason to celebrate isn’t always easy. Many great people have come up with holiday’s if for no other reason than to simply enjoy a day off of work. The key is to find a reason that can be recognized nationally. Consider your surroundings. Do you live in an area with beautiful scenery? Perhaps you can have a Scenery day and simply go out and enjoy the scenery. The same can go with just about anything you can come up with. Pick an object, any object, can you come up with a reason for a holiday for that object? Keep at it until you find the perfect holiday.

Many companies will come up with a product celebration and consider it a holiday. Working together this plan is a stepping stone to creating a new holiday. If nothing else, it’s a great reason for a sale and employees as well as consumers love a sale.

National Holiday’s

It took nearly two decades to establish Martin Luther King Day. This was the first holiday added since the inception of Memorial day in 1948.

A National Holiday is truly an act of Congress and will take a lot of work. To begin you’ll need to contact your local congress person with a proposal that they simply must share. Ideally your proposal will make it all the way to the congressional agenda within a few short years.

Involving Others

Creating the perfect holiday will involve lots of hard work and diligence on the part of many people. Invite everyone you know and ask them to invite everyone they know and so on. Letters to congress persons and even petitions stating the reason for the holiday will help to get your voice heard in congress.

Of course, if all else fails one can consider a family holiday and each year a family can celebrate their own version of a personal holiday. Don’t forget the balloons, fireworks and barbecue for your holiday. You know you deserve it.
