Ghost Mirror

Oh boy, here comes another Halloween and we get to have all that fun again this year. Decorating, having friends over, making eerie-looking foods – it’s a blast. Some people put up the same decorations each year but isn’t it much more fun to do something different each Halloween? Imagine the shock and surprise when your visitors step into your house and happen to look around and see a ghost. Not a fake ghost, hanging from a piece of twine, or a silly ghost you’ve made to stand on a table. How about if they go to check their appearance in your mirror and they see a ghastly reflection? Won’t that be fun to see the looks on their faces? It’s really easy to make a ghost mirror using a large mirror which is already hanging in your home.

Have you ever seen frosted film? Maybe you have and don’t even know it. It’s sold by the roll at most home improvement stores and it’s mostly used to cover windows which don’t offer much privacy, like a bathroom window. The film is placed over the glass to keep others from looking in while still letting the sun shine through the window. With the frosted film you can easily make a ghost mirror to spook your friends and family.

You don’t have to be much of an artist to draw a simplistic ghost figure on the film. But if you don’t have much confidence in your drawing abilities you have other choices. You can download a ghost template or even make a silhouette. Have someone put a sheet over his or her head and stand next to a wall. Shine bright light on the person and have that person stand between the light and the wall. Hang the film up on the wall and trace around the person’s silhouette.

After drawing the silhouette on the film just cut it out with ordinary scissors. Cut the bottom of the ghost to match the type of mirror you have: a rounded bottom for a round mirror; a straight bottom for a rectangular mirror. Lay the mirror flat on a table or put the ghost on the mirror with it still hanging on a wall. Carefully smooth the ghost shape onto the mirror so that you don’t create bubbles or wrinkles. Position the bottom of the ghost shape against the bottom of the glass on the mirror, then smooth the film out as you work upwards toward the head of the ghost.

Mirrors often attract people, and if your ghost mirror is in a place where people will feel free to look at their reflection, they’ll have a ghastly sight in store for them. Any guest who looks in the mirror will do a double-take just from the shock of what they see. The ghost mirror is a simple craft that will give you lots of fun and laughs this Halloween.
