‘Final Destination 5′ Original Motion Picture Soundtrack Review

It’s unfortunate that many times the score to horror films are passed over. It seems like they are dismissed as second-rate background noise. I don’t think people give them the credit they deserve. What would “Psycho” have been without its theme? What about “Jaws?” Now, I am definitely not comparing the score of “Final Destination 5″ to either one of those films, but you get where I’m going with this.

The “Final Destination 5″ Original Motion Picture Soundtrack has some good memorable arrangements to it. Many times, it does start to drone because of the quietness it takes to allude to something sinister happening. There are parts of the score that tend to get lost in the background. Just when it starts to do that, though, you can expect an explosion of instruments to pull you back into Death’s grip.

Composer Bryan Tyler’s first track to the “Final Destination 5″ Original Motion Picture Soundtrack reminds me a lot of the more fun themes we got in the early eighties slasher films. “Main Title” has a sort of sinister quirky sound to it like the theme song from “Friday the 13th – Part 3,” it borders on cheesiness but somehow just barely escapes it and works.

The basic theme music of “Main Title” pops up throughout the “Final Destination 5″ soundtrack. It acts as a reminder of just what we’re listening to. We are startled back into the realization that lives are on the line and Death wants it’s due.

Besides the first track, “Fates Bridge” is the track that stands out the most on The “Final Destination 5″ Original Motion Picture Soundtrack. It is the score that accompanies the sequence in the film where the bridge collapses and everyone dies. It is very bombastic and dramatic. You can picture the deaths of some of the characters in your mind, which I’m sure will be unfortunate for some. It just reminded me of all the cool visuals of the bridge collapsing and characters running around trying to escape.

There haven’t been any major complaints from consumers about the “Final Destination 5″ Original Motion Picture Soundtrack. One consumer compared it to the “Scream 4″ soundtrack but said that he would recommend it to fans of the horror genre.

This isn’t the best score I’ve heard. It’s more like music you put on in the background while you’re working. Every once in a while there will be a loud burst of instruments in the “Final Destination 5″ Original Motion Picture Soundtrack that will jar you like a good horror film should.

Varese Sarabande put out the “Final Destination 5″ Original Motion Picture Soundtrack. It has 19 tracks and features a running time of approximately 63 minutes. Pricing for the CD should be around $13.00.
